Jack Lewis


Biography

Jack Thunder Lewis was born and raised on the Lower East Side of New York City but has made Portland, Oregon, his home since 2006. From 2001 to 2013 Lewis was best known as a member of his brother’s band, Jeffrey Lewis and the Junkyard (Rough Trade Records). With Jeffrey, Jack toured the world from Los Angeles to London, Berlin to Beijing, Melbourne to Moscow, sharing stages with Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks, Devendra Banhart, Devo, The Mountain Goats, The Vaselines, Pulp (at Radio City Music Hall), Scout Niblett, The Cribs, Dr. Dog, and Kimya Dawson. Since 2011 Jack has performed and recorded under the name Awkward Energy with Vinh Nguyen (Fur Coats), Brett Anderson (Takota) and Jesse liams-Hauser. Aside from music Lewis also creates an internet variety show East Side Buffet (past guests have included Juan Wauters, Scout NIblett and The Safdie Brothers), paintings and podcasts. In 2014 Lewis started hosting shows at ESB House. (Notable shows include Woolen Men, Dick Diver, Golden Hour, Explode Into Colors, and Dragging An Ox Through Water).
