Lee Bains III & the Glory Fires drop surprise live album "Live at the Nick"
Posted on August 17th, 2018

Out today on Don Giovanni Records, Live at the Nick documents Lee Bains & the Glory Fires' two night stand at The Nick late last year in their hometown of Birmingham, AL. Taped at the culmination of more than six months of touring for their 2017 2xLPYouth Detention, these shows took place at a tense moment for the band, personally and also politically -- with Roy Moore then still in the running for a US Senate seat.

In August, the band will embark on a tour of the UK and Europe followed by a jaunt through the southeast joined by Bad Moves and Nana Grizol. Find the full list of dates below.

Lee Bains on Live at the Nick:

In November of 2017, we played two nights at The Nick in Birmingham with some of our favorite Alabama bands -- \\GT//, Shaheed & DJ Supreme, Bad Example, Dommel Mossel, Me & My Knife, and Snacks, and raising attention for our friends at Alabama Coalition for Immigrant Justice and Hometown Action. Tension was in the air. While Trump's deportation squads, racial vitriol, and anti-worker policies were strafing the country, Alabama was caught in the most heated U.S. Senate race of our lifetimes. Roy Moore, whose reign as a Christian-supremacist homophobic judge had spanned most of our lives, was in great danger of being sent to D.C. as Alabama's senator. Meanwhile, our former Senator Jeff Sessions was implementing and excusing the worst of Trump's policies as Attorney General.

It was fitting, then, to find ourselves in the heart of Birmingham's Southside, the neighborhood that so many young Alabamians have found as a sanctuary, and inside the pine-box walls of the Nick, where many of us ordered our first beer, or saw our first indie rock show, or watched our first bleary-eyed sunup. While the world roiled beyond the slanting, sun-bleached front porch, we felt together and strong inside. We still do. We sent Roy Moore packing, and we're working on Sessions and Trump, too. This record is about raising hell for and from your home-place and your home-folks. Let's keep on working.

Fat Tony announces new LP "10,000 Hours" out 9/28 on Don Giovanni Records
Posted on August 15th, 2018

Out September 28th on Don Giovanni Records, 10,000 Hours is the fifth full-length by Houston-bred Nigerian-American rapper, Fat Tony (born Anthony Lawson Jude Ifeanyichukwu Obiawunaotu). The album was recorded in Los Angeles throughout 2018 and produced by Tony’s longtime friend, HevIn.

“The album title is about where I am in my career,” says Tony. “I’m not a novice. I’ve dedicated a decade in my life to doing this.” If you need proof, look no further than the haggard looking selfie that adorns the record cover, which was snapped following an all-night mix session. It’s Tony’s most personal work to date -- unguarded, but frequently light-hearted -- conceived in the company of his closest friends.

Fat Tony on "Texas":

“Texas” is interesting because it plays on my punk roots musically, as the production is an homage to Le Tigre and Devo. The song also speaks on my outlook regarding the NRA and gun violence, Texas politicians, the gross underpay of SXSW, and my hometown pride.

Roadside Graves Announce "God Makes Junk" Digital Box Set
Posted on August 12th, 2018

Out August 31st, God Makes Junk: 2001-2016 is a digital boxed set and rough working history of New Jersey's Roadside Graves. A hodgepodge collection comprised of almost 40 tracks, the set includes unreleased live recordings, radio sessions, remixes, demo and alternate versions, and some random nonsense recordings taped during the first period of the band's existence.

"To be clear, we don’t hold such high opinions of ourselves that we think the whole world wants to hear our outtakes and demos," writes the band. "But... there’s a chance that there might be a few people in those wonderful pockets still thriving in Longview, TX., Moscow, ID, Maquokueta, IA, Reno, NV or Metuchen, NJ who do and maybe some places and people who have yet to listen."

The band will perform a release show on September 1st at the Asbury Park Yacht Club in Asbury Park, NJ.
